Course Objective

Provide a safe working skills and habits in the laboratory during the trial, determine the potential risks that could arise and enable student to apply protective measures needed to counteract the unwanted accidents.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Identifying the concept and principles outlined in Biosafety
2   Able to have a knowledge of laboratory acquired pathogens and preventive methods.
3   Associate the risk connection between the biosafety levles and laboratory acquired pathogens
4   Apply the good microbiological laboratory rules and skills
5   Abbility to make an environmental risk assessment
6   Determine the association between the laboratory acquired infections and safety rules

1 Definition of biosafety principles (risk measures of biological agents, Biosafety levels)
2 Good laboratory working methods and applications,national and international regulations
3 Recombinant DNA safety works and Secondary mechanical protective systems (biological safety cabinet selection, usage)
4 Blood-borne pathogens programes (assesment of risk, risk, universal precautions , safe operating rules, and follow-up treatment after an accident)
5 Laboratory animal facilities Biosafety Levels
6 Principles and applications of decontamination and disinfection, Processing and disposal of medical wastes
7 Safe working practices radiation and radionuclides
8 Mid term
9 Chemical hazards and precautions
10 Biophysical and Physical factors, the negative effects on human
