Course Objective

Maritime transportation, ship maneuvering and comparative analyzes of international standards related to safety of navigation, safety of navigation on the design and planning criteria and cases of application.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Knowledge on international standards related to ship maneuvering and navigation safety in maritime transportation,
2   Knowledge on ship maneuvering and navigational features.
3   To make risk assessment related to the existing coastal facilities, and maneuvering areas
4   To make an analysis on the risk of maritime traffic.
5   To find solutions to the problems of safety of maritime transport and navigation

1 Ship-Port interface, international standards and principles,
2 Vessel dimensions, Ships and maneuvering characteristics, Ship maneuvering limits,
3 Environmental conditions and their effects on the ship,
4 Port maneuvering characteristics, basin dimensions.
5 Channel design, channel width, and turnings,
6 Relationship between water depth and draft of the ship,
7 Mooring pattern of the off-shore facilities
8 National and international regulations on maritime traffic
9 The data required for maritime traffic planning, traffic flow analysis, capacity analysis
10 Simulation applications
11 Simulation applications
12 Marine traffic management, specifically in relation to Maritime Traffic Management Technologies
13 Presentations of the projects related to safety of navigation and maritime traffic reports
14 Presentations of the projects related to safety of navigation and maritime traffic reports
