Course Objective

The course tends to explain the regulations and solutions about marine environmental problems. It is based upon the international conventions and green shipping applications concerning maritime environment.
In the first phase of the course, the objective is to learn about the sources causing marine pollution and identify the management methods of marine pollution in the framework of international conventions and rules.
In the second phase of the course, the objective is to learn about methods and systems applied for control of marine pollution caused by ships and ports.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Learning the Introduction to Marine Pollution Control
2   Understanding Types and Effects of Marine Pollutants and Ship Based Marine Pollution.
3   Discusing tne Legal Aspects of Marine Pollution. International Conventions and Regulations of Marine Pollution and Integration of Environment Management Standards to Maritime Industry.
4   Establishment of Environmental Risk Assessment Models for Various Types of Ships, Ports and Flag State Management.
5   Learning Control of Ship Based Pollution. Fuel Consumption and Efficiency.
6   Understanding the Oil and Chemical Spills from Ships, Emission Regulations and Air Pollution Minimization and The Usage of Alternative Fuels on Ships.
