Course Objective

In the concept of this course, the interactions of between metals and microorganisms will review, functions and transportations of metal ions on the microbial cell metabolism and anti-microbial activity and metal toxicity as well as understanding biotechnological importance of metal compounds will be aimed.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   explain the function of metals in micro-organisms,
2   explain to the supply and analysis of metals in microbial cultures as well as metal transport,
3   explain to I A and II A cations and metabolic roles of the transition elements,
4   explain to metal toxicity discuss its effects,
5   know relationship with metals, micro-organisms and biotechnology.

Assessment Criteria

Meaningful learning of the basic concepts given in presentations, association of concepts with each other, establishing the cause-result relationships and making comments by using the information available for problems and evaluating idea generation are carried out with mid-term and final exams, active participation to the lecture, homework.
