Course Objective

This course intends to provide students with comprehensive understanding of the transformation the concept of culture has gone in history. The course is expected to give background information of civilizations in terms of their implications on social settings, culture and art. In addition to social-cultural and art environments, the course also highlights the history of private life / daily life, art, culture, literature and biographies by different periods. The final considerations and critical discussions will consist of possible reflections of the past in urban cultural and spatial environments.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To introduce the student the concept of cultural history
2   To focus on culture-art life as complementary to urban life and space
3   To give the students the ability to interpret the holistic picture consisting of institutional and private life history in cultural production in the course of time
4   To provide students with a critical perspective on current cultural interpretations on basis of cultural history.
