Course Objective |
Over the past decade, polymer nanocomposites have attracted considerable interests in both academia and industry, owing to their outstanding mechanical properties with only a small amount of the nanoadditives. The aim of this course is to introduce the graduate students polymer nanocomposites who might use them in designing their researchs or projects. This course covers polymer nanocomposites containing layered silicates (clay) as well as other nanoadditives such as graphite. Many thermoplastics and thermosets are included such as polyamide, polypropylene, polystyrene, poly(ethyl acrylate), epoxy resin, biodegradable polymers, water soluble polymers and acrylate photopolymers. In addition to synthesis of polymer nanocomposites, their unique properties are also discussed. Finally, each student will be asked to give two seminars on the covered subjects from the recent papers in the literature and their evaluations will affect the success of the student. |
