Course Objective

The objective of this course is to teach fundamentals of sustainable energy to provide background for understanding the renewable energy resources in mechatronics.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To describe Basics of Solar Energy, CO2- problem, Photovoltaic Systems.
2   To identify the appropriate Hydrogen Process.
3   To compute the dimensions and power of a Wind Energy System
4   To choose the appropriate renewable energy resource
5   To select the correct energy type.

1 Introduction to sustainable energy.
2 Basics of solar energy.
3 Balance of Solar and IR-radiation of earth.
4 CO2- problem, Photovoltaic systems.
5 Planning of cells and panels.
6 Production processes.
7 Control of Solar Heating Systems.
8 Non concentrating systems ( one-/two- pane-collector, vacuum-tube-collector).
9 Wind energy Processes.
10 Biomass.
11 Hydrogen Procesess.
12 Hydrogen Storage (CH2, LH2, metal-hydrides, chemical hydrides),
13 Geothermal energy
14 Application examples.
