Course Objective

The aim of this course is to examine the relationship between health and urban planning disciplines via the Healthy City Project that developed by World Health Organization to implement the `Health for All objectives at local levels; to discuss the significant parameters on designing healthy urban environments that promote active living, and to evaluate the significant parameters with an empirical research.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   At the end of this course, the students are expected to define Healthy Cities parameters,
2   to compare the healthy cities spatial arrangements with the examples of Türkiye and around the world,
3   to interpret the macro and micro physical environmental qualities that support active living,
4   to measure different physical environmental qualities that promote active living via different levels,
5   to design an empirical research on physical environments that promote active living on urban environments.

This course will be given through conference presentations and literature readings. Students will prepare homework on course topics and make individual presentations.

Assessment Criteria

Definition and Comparison are evaluated by the Mid-term Exam (assignment submission stage 1). Interpretation and Measure are evaluated by the Homework assignments (assignment submission stage 2). Designing is evaluated by Final Exam (research paper).
