Course Objective

The main objective of this course is to introduce the students to the four-step model in transport planning within the urban and regional planning framework. All the subjects covered in the course will be explained through
solved numerical examples. At the end of the course, students will be highly familiar with the four steps of the classical urban transportation planning system within the urban and regional planning framework: (1) Trip
generation, (2) trip distribution, (3) mode choice, and (4) route assignment. Data organization and hands-on applications are included in the course.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Understand the formulas and algorithms to apply the four-step model in transport planning within the urban and regional planning framework.
2   Conceive the application areas of the four-step model in transport planning within the urban and regional planning framework.
3   Differentiate which techniques are used in the four-step model in transport planning within the urban and regional planning framework.
4   Interpret the results derived from the four-step model in transport planning within the urban and regional planning framework.
5   Decide which model to use under given assumptions to solve different problems within the urban and regional planning framework.
