Course Objective

The main objective of this course is to provide specialization in the solution of a spatial planning problem by following the stages required by the planning process in urban and regional planning studies. The results from the analyses are assessed with respect to the urban planning literature. Based on the results obtained, urban planning problems are to be discussed.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   will be able to define planning problems (knowledge)
2   will be able to know different planning techniques and methods used in settlement pattern analysis (knowledge)
3   will be able to analyse urban patterns and to simplify the urban space
4   will be able to interpret the results from the urban pattern analyses
5   will be able to relate different planning techniques used with urban information (analysis)
6   will be able to interpret spatial analysis results
7   will be able to develop solutions to real urban problems

1 WEEK 1 Explanation and introduction of the objective of the course and the subject of the project.
2 WEEK 2 Conducting research on the project topic and the selected case area.
3 WEEK 3 Investigation and information gathering in the selected area (Birgi) as the subject of the project.
4 WEEK 4 Compilation, analysis and presentation of collected information.
5 WEEK 5 Compilation, analysis and presentation of collected information.
6 WEEK 6 Synthesis studies. Purpose and goals formulations.
7 WEEK 7 Mid-term Examination
8 WEEK 8 Determination of planning policies, scenarios and strategies.
9 WEEK 9 Determination of planning policies, scenarios and strategies.
10 WEEK 10 Developing planning decisions in the light of developed spatial policies.
