Course Objective


The aim of the course is to explain the concept of Modern Architectural Heritage, which is one of the new problematics of the field of conservation, through definition, scope, quality, legislation and to discuss conservation problems. For this purpose, firstly, the concept of Modern Architecture and its historical process will be explained; then the emergence of the definition of Modern Architectural Heritage and the discussions in this context within the conservation paradigm will be discussed. Modern Architectural Heritage conservation problems will be discussed on a national and international scale through legal legislation, social assumptions and implementation practices. Expansions of the problematic of conservation through readings of Modern Architectural Heritage will be analysed.

After all the lectures; students are expected to propose a building /group of buildings / sites to be evaluated within the scope of Modern Architectural Heritage in the light of the information they have acquired, to evaluate their proposals within the scope of Modern Architectural Heritage and to prepare a file containing the necessary information (building tag, drawing, photograph, conservation criteria, etc.) for registration and to discuss the conservation problems within a context.

3   To be able to evaluate Modern Architectural buildings in the context of architectural heritage and to define its quality
4   To be able to sophisticatedly define Modern Architectural Heritage and its conservation problems
5   To be able to consider Modern Architectural Heritage conservation practices as critical.
6   To study on a research about Modern Architectural Heritage of Türkiye and generate registration purpose.
