Course Objective

The aim of the course is to make students to be educated with both theories and researches investigating human and built environment. Theories and researches about environmental perception have been handled in the content of this course. During the course, the students find out research problems related to the interaction between architectural environment and human, they research and present the results of their researches as both seminars and research reports.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   to explain the relations among architectural environment, urban environment, public open space and human
2   To analize basic theories about environmental perception
3   To determine a research problem about the relation between architectural environment and human
4   To conduct a research about the relation between architectural environment and human
5   to present the results of the research both as seminars and research reports

2 What is environmental psychology History, basic concepts, descriptions and properties.
3 The basic environment-behavior theories. Discussions on the selected readings.
4 Environmental perception; Discussions on the selected readings.
5 Affective and cognitive perception of the environment and related studies
6 Kevin Lynch and the image of the city
7 Determination of the research problem
8 Presentation of the research problem (Student presentation)
9 Literature review and limitation of the research problem

12 Presentation of research results (Student presentation)
13 Main principles of writing a research report
