Course Objective

General definition of natural building stones, classification according to their geological origin and usage. Describing material (physical- mechanical, elastic, technologic) properties of natural building stones, changes in these properties according to rocks structure, their importance in determining the usage areas and the national and global standards.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To understand the general properties of natural building stones.
2   To know the geological characterization of natural building stones and their effects to engineering behaviours.
3   Able to choose the right stone for a practise by the use of natural building stones structural characteristics
4   To be able to understand the standard tests related to the natural building stones physical characteristics.
