Course Objective

The course is aim to give the fundemantal knowledge on soil properties, common soil
contaminants, conventional soil remediation techniques and the fate and transport of
the contaminants in soil matrix.

2   Learning the insitu and exsitu soil remediation techniques
3   Learning the behavior of organic and inorganic contaminants in soil
4   Learning the bioremediation methods for contaminated soil
5   Learning the physical and chemical soil remediation methods

2 Soil make up, Soil texture, Soil structure and aggregation, Soil gasses oil moisture
3 Mass and volume relationships in the soil matrix, Heterogeneity, Conservation of mass, Transformation of contaminants
4 Microbial ecology in soil, Bacterial growth in soil, Metabolism and energy production
5 Biodegradation of organic contaminants
6 Insitu remediation and bioremediation techniques
7 Midterm exam
8 Introduction to the exsitu techniques
9 Soil vapor extraction, Bioventing, Supercritical fluid extraction
10 Land treatment, Composting
11 Slurry phase bioremediation, Chemical treatment
12 Vapor phase biological treatment
