Course Objective

This course is focused on biogeochemical physical processes controlling the distribution of nutrients, organic matter, dissolved oxygen, primary productivity in environments including Mediterranean, Marmara, Aegean and Black Sea.

2 Black Sea oceanography and the Cold Intermediate Layer (CIL) formation processes in the Black Sea
3 Interactions between the physical, biological and chemical processes of the oxic, suboxic and anoxic layers of the Black Sea, occurence and stability of the suboxic zone
4 The role of anthropogenic and climatic forcing on the long-term changes of the Black Sea Ecosystem
5 Chemical fluxes in the Turkiye Strait System, Dardanelles and Bosphorus Straits.
6 Two-layer marine ecosystem in the Sea of Marmara, physical processes and chemical oceanography of the Aegean Sea
7 The interaction of physical processes and chemical oceanography of the Aegean Sea
8 Physical properties of Meditarrean Sea
9 Biogeochemical physical presses controlling the distribution of nutrients, organic matter and primary productivity in Mediterranean Sea
10 Biochemical properties of water mass in the Eastern Mediterranean
11 Chemistry of atmospheric aerosols and effect of Saharan dust on the productivity in the Sea
12 Distribution and inputs of persistant pollutants in different matrices from the Turkish coastal waters

There is 75% attendance in the course. Midterm, final and end-of-term papers are evaluated.
