Course Objective

Students are able to learn wide variety of sensors used in biomedical applications, measuring pressure, flow, motion, temperature, heat flow, evaporation, biopotential, biomagnetism, and chemical quantities.. Students are able to know the applications of wearable sensors and systems.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students are expected to learn various types of biomedical sensors that are used to measure electrical, chemical, physical activities from human body
2   Students are expected to overview on medical applications of wearable systems
3   Students are expected to search and present recent developments in the area of various types of sensors used in biomedical applications
4   Students are expected to preapare and present a case study related to a specific type of sensor as a result of searching the studies on that subject
5   Students are expected to prepare a technical report related to the term project

2 An overview to biomedical sensors and classification of biomedical sensors
3 Physical measurements; Description of Sensors, Linear and Angular Displacement Sensors, Inductance Sensors, Capacitive Sensors, Sonic and Ultrasonic Sensors, Velocity Measurement, Accelerometers, Force Measurement, Measurement of Fluid Dynamic Variables and Temperature
4 Biomedical applications of physical sensors
5 Biopotential electrodes
6 Electrochemical sensors
7 Optical sensors
8 Bioanalytic sensors
9 Wearable Sensors and Systems
