Course Objective |
An introduction into materials operating in extreme environments is a real challenge as one has to deal with variety of topics. This situation is also valid for nuclear applications. This course will begin with an overview of nuclear plants. Then, structural materials and mechanical properties important for the structural integrity of components in nuclear plants will be introduced to the students. Next, influence of environment, such as radiation damage and corrosion will ve considered. Lastly, materials selection and life prediction methodologies for nuclear reactors will be discussed. Besides, each student will be asked to give a seminar on the covered subjects from the recent papers in the literature and their evaluations will affect the success of the student.
