Course Objective

In this course detailed knowledge about oncological diseases will be given to the radiotherapy technology student and the student will be enabled to approach cancer patients appropriately; to reflect his/her knowledge about the spreading characteristics of the cancer type and about the aim of radiotherapy to the radiotherapy planning procedure; to be aware of the patients' problems due to disease and treatment that can be encountered during and after radiotherapy; to observe and detect these problems; to direct the patients accordingly for the solving of the problems; to communicate and cooperate with the radiation oncologists, radiotherapy physicists, and radiotherapy technologists for the compensation of the patients' needs and for achieving high quality in their treatment.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   The student is able to describe the epidemiology and etiology of various organ cancers.
2   The student is able to describe the prognosis, symptoms and signs of various organ cancers
3   The student is able to define the pathological types of various organ cancers
4   The student is able to explain the diagnostic and staging procedures of various organ cancers
5   The student is able to explain the prognostic factors and treatment of various organ cancers.
6   The student is capable of behaving cancer patients appropriately
