Course Objective

The aim of this course is to learn the place, role and responsibilities of occupational health nursing in the occupational health service team by explaining the importance of occupational health and safety in the world and in our country.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Explain the purpose of occupational health and occupational health services
2   Explain primary, secondary and tertiary protection measures for worker s health risks and problems
3   Explain the current situation in occupational health and safety in the world and in Türkiye.
4   Explain the relationship between work and health
5   Explain the historical development of occupational health and occupational health nursing.
6   To be able to comprehend the roles and functions of the occupational health nurse.
7   To be able to develop solutions for the problems arising from the working environment (occupational diseases, work accident) by using the nursing process.

2 Historical development and current status of occupational health in the world
3 Historical development and current situation of occupational health services in Türkiye
4 Laws and regulations in Occupational Health services
5 Occupational health nursing, its history, roles, legal status
6 Hazards and risks in the working environment, characteristics of the working environment
7 Midterm Exam
8 Occupational diseases and prevention, nurse's responsibilities
9 Occupational accidents, protection, use of personal protective equipment
10 Disadvantaged groups in working life
11 Risk assessment in the workplace, exemplary health and safety programs in occupational health services
12 Subjects specific to business lines (occupational health and safety in healthcare personnel)
13 Industry-specific issues (occupational health and safety in mining workers)
14 Ethical issues in occupational health services
