Course Objective

The aim of the course is; to understand the concept of environment, environmental data, natural, social and built environment components and interactions and to reveal human, human dimensions, needs and relations with the environment and to discuss the questions of architecture and space through different definitions and to enable students to recognize the discipline of architecture.

1   LO1: To be able to define the concept of environment, built environment and properties of built environment
2   LO2: To be able to explain the effects of human behavior and human needs on space,
3   LO3: To be able to describe the studies on the perception of space
4   LO4: To be able to explain the concept of architecture, space and the properties of architectural space,
5   LO5: To be able to explain the architectural design process and analyze design approaches

1 1. Meeting, introduction of the course: Discussions on architecture

3 3. Discussion of concepts such as interior space, exterior space, urban space etc. through examples.
4 4. Human-environment relations, system concept, human system, human characteristics, human behavior and human needs

Environmental system, characteristics of the environment, built / constructed environment / human-environment relations in the built environment Environmental system, characteristics of the environment, built / constructed environment / human-environment relations in the built environment (housing, school buildings, ...)
6 6. Examination of the concepts of perception, perception, comprehension, image, mental map, orientation, identification, city image

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Visual and oral presentations on the subject will be made by the instructors, the subjects will be reinforced with in-class activities, and discussions will be carried out in the context of architectural examples.
