Course Objective

Different roof types and constructions, which are an important element of the building envelope, are taught in the course content. The course content covers the pitched roofs supported by load-bearing slabs/beams and suspended roofs together with their applications. In addition, as a continuation of the subject of reinforced concrete frame structures in Mim 2601, theoretical knowledge and applications of steel frame systems and elements are covered within the scope of the course. Thus, it is aimed that students have knowledge about frame systems produced with different materials.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Recognising the general characteristics, functions and types of roofs
2   To be able to understand the relationship between the structural elements of roofs produced with different materials and cladding materials and to be able to analyse the detail solutions of roof structure.
3   To be able to analyse roof typologies suitable for different architectural and building physics requirements
4   To be able to analyse roof typologies suitable for different architectural and building physics requirements
5   To recognise the building components used in steel frame structure and their functions
6   Understanding the relationship between structural elements in steel frame structure,

Recomended or Required Reading

Textbook: Türkçü,H.Ç.,(2009), Yapım, Birsen Yayınevi, Istanbul.
Supplementary Book(s):

References: None.
Materials: they will be announced by the instructors.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

In the lectures, theoretical knowledge will be taught and principle methods will be conveyed in the related subjects. However, students are expected to improve the theoretical knowledge with the applications during the course and to be able to produce solutions to the problems they encounter during the construction process (details, structural element relations, etc.). In this context, the applications made during the course play a more effective role in the evaluation process of the course.
