Course Objective

All the equipments that is required for building production can be called as building material. Building material is the most rapidly progressing scientific field, in which new products continuously developed. MIM. 1612 Building Material I aims to describe, explain and summarize the physical, mechanical and chemical properties of building materials, as well as their production methods and how they would be used in architecture. The material groups to be described are; minerals, natural/artificial stones, ceramics, wood, timber, laminated timber, aggregate, binders, concrete, metals, polymers and glasses.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Identifying the building materials
2   Recognizing the physical properties of building materials
3   Recognizing the mechanical properties of building materials
4   Recognizing the chemical properties of building materials
5   Identifying the architectural usage objectives of building materials
6   Analyzing the use of building materials in architecture by material brochures and standards (TSE)
