Course Objective

The main aim of the course is to convey to the students the urban ecosystem and green infrastructure and how people can benefit from the functioning of ecological systems. In addition to emphasizing the importance of the ecosystem service paradigm, it also aims to teach the methods to be applied in order to achieve ecological growth in urban spaces.
It is expected that students will gain knowledge on how to increase the ecosystem services provided by green infrastructure in urban spaces, how to integrate them into urban plans, and how to measure ecosystem services.
It is also aimed to provide students with techniques and perspectives that can be integrated into many different courses related to urban development, especially project courses.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To have knowledge about the concept of green infrastructure and its importance for urban plans
2   To be able to understand the importance of green infrastructure in the establishment of urban-green space relationship
3   To have knowledge about green infrastructure management
4   . To have knowledge about ecosystem services
5   To have the ability to produce ecologically based solutions by integrating green

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Conceptual explanations will be through presentations and learning will be supported by readings, discussions and exercises. Students will be asked to prepare assignments including green infrastructure system proposals.

Assessment Criteria

Theoretical knowledge will be evaluated in the midterm and final exam. Relating the taught subjects and proposing alternative solutions will be evaluated by the assignments. In addition, in the evaluation of the assignments, 10% of the assignment score will be calculated by peer assessment method.
