Course Objective

This course aims at defining policy, presenting the theories of urban politics with the circumstances under which they have developed, getting to comprehend the relations between policy and politics, interpreting the spatial development policy followed in Türkiye as a case of practice, and analysing the relationships between urban politics and planning policy.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   At the end of this course, students, will be able to define policy (Knowledge),
2   will be able to list the theories of urban politics historically (Knowledge),
3   will be able to describe urban politics and planning policies with examples (Comprehension),
4   will be able to interpret the policies followed in Türkiye (Application),
5   will be able to relate urban politics to planning policies (Analysis).

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The course will be taught and learned by readings, lectures and discussions. Role playing and case study techniques will be utilized in course discussions to support student centred learning.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

There will be one mid-term exam grade and one final exam grade.

Assessment Criteria

Learning outcomes of defining concepts and describing them with examples will be evaluated in the midterm exam. Relating the subjects, interpreting the examples and proposing alternative solutions will be evaluated in the final exam.
