Course Objective

This course aims at the students to comprehend the importance of the participation and collaborative problem solving strategies in planning processes and to learn and discuss the methods and approaches towards realization of the participatory/collaborative models.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Will be able to list different approach in planning (Knowledge)
2   Will be able to define the participatory/collaborative models and methods in planning (Knowledge)
3   Will be able to distinguish the affecting/affected social groups (Comprehension)
4   Will be able to interpret the implemantations and experiences of participatory processes (Application)
5   Will be able to discuss the different mission and responsibilities of a planner (Analysis)
6   Will be able to relate the participatory approaches to the social structures and formations (Analysis)

1 The planning approaches ranging from historical conjuncture
2 The types of democracy and the discourses and approches emerging with the crisis of representative democracy
3 Public participation in planning as an area of collaborative problem solving and planning as a process
4 The affecting and affected groups of the planning process and the role of planner The assignments will be given to the students on this week
5 The different types and levels of the public participation
6 The main criticsism of partipatory approaches
7 The place and level of the public participation in the international and national legal and administrative regulations
8 Mid term examination
9 Analyse of participation models I- Cases of Europe and USA
10 Analyse of participation models II- Cases of Europe and USA
11 Analyse of participation models III- Cases of Türkiye
12 Analyse of participation models IV- Cases of Türkiye

This course will be given through lectures. Students will learn topics by reading the papers given to them, listening the lectures and prepearing their assigment and presentation.
