Course Objective

In this course, information about raw materials and their sources will be given. Students will be familiarized with the pretreatment processes applied raw materials in order to extraction by pyro-, hydro- end electrometallurgical processes, and concepts and their applications, in pretreatments processes, related to thermodynamics and metallurgical thermochemistry process will be explained. The industrial applications of pretreatments in extraction of some of the important metals will be introduced. The affects of pretreatments on environment will be discussed.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   be able to describe basic concepts associated with raw materials and their sources
2   be able to explain the pretreatments and their properties, applied ores for the preparation for metallurgical extraction
3   be able to apply principles of thermodynamics and metallurgical thermochemistry on metallurgical pretreatment processes
4   be able to explain industrial applications of pretreatment processes by examples
5   be able to define basic concepts of environmental problems that may be revealed from pretreatment processes
6   be able to present orally and by writing a report about metallurgical pretreatment processes and/or an industrial application given
