Course Objective

The aim of the course is to give the students the relations between solidification of metals and alloys and casting structures, and to introduce moulding materials used in industry, moulding techniques, casting methods, probable casting defects and relation of casting and environment, and to enable students to design risering and gating system.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To explain the concepts and events related to casting technology,
2   To discuss relationships between cast structures and solidification parameters,
3   To apply by observing on a casting sample under foundry conditions to the design principles of risering and gating
4   To compare casting methods by different point of view,
5   To define casting defects, their reasons and measurements that can be taken,
6   To describe standards, structures and properties required in applications of cast irons,
7   To examine the casting processes in terms of environment and sustainability
