Course Objective

In recent years, denim fabrics have become one of the important tools of the fashion industry. In addition to daily clothing, haute couture clothes are also frequently used. The products produced from denim fabrics are subjected to many different processes and thus different effects are gained from each other.

In this course, the historical development of denim fabrics, indigo dyestuff, indigo dyeing processes, wet and dry finishing processes will be examined.

3   To learn wet and dry processes of denim garments and their effects
4   To get knowledge on agents that are used in denim washing
5   To learn machinery used in denim washing
6   Calculation and practice of recipes for denim washing processes

2 Chemistry of indigo, Indigo dyeing techniques, Traditional techniques, Rope dyeing, Slasher dyeing, Double sheet dyeing, practice: indigo dyeing
3 Indigo dyeing (continue),.Indigo dyeing machines, Factors affecting indigo dyeing, Analyses during and after indigo dyeing, practice: indigo dyeing
4 Non-indigo dyestuffs for denim:-Sulphur dyes-Reactive dyes-Natural dyes, practice: dyeing with sulphur dyes.
5 Dyeing technologies for denim garments, practice: dyeing with reactive dyes.
6 Printing of denim products, Introduction to denim washing, Denim washing machinery 6.4. Laboratory practice
7 Desizing,. Rinse/normal washing, practice: rinse washing.
8 Stone washing, Tinting, practice: rinse washing
9 Simultaneous stone washing and tinting, practice: enzyme washing
10 Enzyme washing, Enzymes in washing of denim products, Simultaneous stone and enzyme washing, practice: enzyme washing
11 Bleaching of denim products, Hypochlorite wash, Permanganate wash, Hydrogen peroxide treatment, Ozone fading, practice: hypochloride treatment.
12 Finishing of denim products-Resin finish-Coating-Functional finishing, practice: permanganate treatment.
13 Physical treatments -Sanding-Whiskers-Sand blasting-Brushing-Grinding, Laser fading, practice: softening.
14 Mill visit
