Course Objective

The course covers the raw materials, structural features, production methods, quality features and usage areas of all kinds of sewing threads used in the apparel and sewing industry.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Having knowledge about the properties, structure and numbering of sewing threads
2   Having knowledge about the fibers used in sewing threads and being able to classify sewing threads
3   Having knowledge about the production processes of cotton, synthetic and core sewing threads
4   Having information about the processes applied to sewing threads
5   Recognizing the quality control processes applied to sewing threads

2 Classification of sewing threads
3 Fibers used in the production of sewing threads Structure of sewing threads and properties sought in sewing threads
4 Numbering of sewing threads and tag number
5 Production of cotton sewing threads
6 Production of synthetic sewing threads Production of core sewing threads
7 Winding, folding and folded twisting processes in sewing thread production
8 Finishing processes applied to sewing threads (steaming, gassing, bleaching, mercerization, dye)
9 Examination of the effects of lubricating sewing threads in terms of yarn properties Packaging and stocking of sewing threads
