Course Objective

To acquire the necessary information and basic concepts about the calculation and design of the machine elements (gear mechanisms, belt-pulley mechanisms, chain mechanisms, axles, shafts, bearings, clutches and couplings) used in mechanical systems.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Ability to use standard tables in solving machine design problems
2   Ability to design and select mechanical components used in power and motion transmission of machines (such as gears, chains, belts and pulleys)
3   Ability to design carrying elements such as axles and shafts
4   Ability to select elements such as bearings, coupling clutches, etc.
5   Ability to know constructive shaping principles in machine design

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Theory of the course and examples are taught by presentations. The course is given and solve problems that benefiting from these presentations. It takes in the form of question and answer.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

There are two midterm exams and a final exam. Success grade is calculated by considering 25% of midterm exams and 50% of final exam. Depending on the situation, one of the midterm exams can be evaluated with the quiz averages (or it can be evaluated with a quiz package).

Assessment Criteria

ÖÇ1,ÖÇ2,ÖÇ3, ÖÇ4,ÖÇ5 are considered by exams.
