Course Objective

Study sufficently formation, properties and classification of the sedimentary rocks and sedimentary environments.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Analysis the textural properties of the clastic rocks by statistic methods.
2   Establish the sedimentary events relation with physic and chemistry
3   Identify the sedimentary rocks in the field
4   Make sedimentary log by using sedimentary data
5   Classification of the sedimentary rocks using microscope.
6   Synthes the sedimentary data for interpretation of the sedimentary environments.
7   How to applicate sedimentology on the geological engineering.

1 Weathering, sediments, sediment transporting, physical properties of transporting media, flow regimes, laminar and turbulent flow, transporting mechanisms of the grains in a fluid, bedload transporting, suspended transporting, sedimentation rate, sediment accumulation, Hjulström diagram

3 Clastic texture and textural statistic of grain size analysis, cumulative frequency curves, grafic sorting, grafic skewness and grafic kurtosis, grain shape, textural and mineralogical maturity

1. Sedimentary knowledge degree of student is evaluated with two mid-term exams
2. Microscope skill of the student is tested with two microscope exams.
3. Assessments of the drawings, applications and problem solvings.
4. Report of the field working.
5. Remarks on the student interactivity during the course.

1. Researching on microscope, applications and fild working are essential.
2. Field workings has been created during weekends.
3.Uncomplited workings during applications and labor are complited as homeworks and given as report.
