Course Objective

To teach of geological and economical parameters of natural building stone effecting their production and processing process and usability performance.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To categorize the natural building stones using for engineering projects according to their geological origins and methods of production and processing.
2   To know economical parameters that effect on usability of a rock mass as natural building stone.
3   To know production methods and processing technologies of natural stones.
4   To know geological parameters that effect on rock mass properties.
5   To know identification and estimation methods that effect on usability of igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks as natural building stone source.
6   To know that material properites, identification methods and related standards of natural building stones.
7   To know that durabilities and deterioration forms of natural building stones and caused factors.
8   To know production fields of natural building stones that produced in Turkiye and the world, categorization according to their geological properties and general properties.

1 Being able to describe natural building stones, to label according to their geological origins, usage forms and places.
2 Economical parameters that effect usability of a rock mass as natural building stone.
3 Methods of natural building stone production.
4 Technology of natural stone processing.
5 Geological parameters that effect to mass properties of rocks and their effects on usability as natural building stone source.
6 Geological parameters that effect to usability of igneous rocks as natural building stone source.
7 1. Midterm Exam
8 Geological parameters that effect to usability of metamorphic rocks as natural building stone source
9 Geological parameters that effect to usability of sedimentary rocks as natural building stone source
10 Identification and interpretation methods of geological parameters that effect on usability of rocks as natural building stone sources.
11 Material properties, identification methods and related standards of natural building stones.
12 Durability and deterioration forms of natural building stones and caused factors.
