Course Objective

The main objective of the course to introduce novel waste trreatment technologies used for removal of the poluttants from water, soil and air. These are pollutants which are hardly treated by conventional waste treatment technologies. For example; aerobic and anaerobic biological treatment of textile dyestuffs, pesticides, hydrocarbons, saline watewaters, low nitrogen containing wastewaters by bacteria , algae and fungi are discussed, biological degradation mechanisms and bioprocessing conditions are explained.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Clasify the microorganism types used in waste bioproseesing
2   Define the microbial degdaration mechanisms specfic to the pollutant
3   Aware of novel bioprocess technoogies used for treatment of pollutants in wastewater, solid materials and in gas.
4   Recognize the biyotechnological approuches used in removal of pollutants
5   Develope new approuches in application of biotechnology to Environemntal Engineering
