Course Objective |
The purpose of the course is to provide knowledge on global energy and environmental problems and basic information on sustainable energy technologies. Different types of technologies, their operation principles, materials, manufacturing techniques, advantages and challenges will be discussed. The course will cover topics on several renewable and alternative energy conversion and storage technologies. Specifically, solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, hydrogen, fuel cell and battery technologies will be covered. The course will also introduce the analysis of sustainable energy systems on macro level as well as their environmental impacts. |

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods |
The course is taught in a lecture, class presentation and discussion format. All students are expected to attend the lectures. Students will be expected to produce a project report and make an in-class oral presentation. This project is intended to allow students to study a topic related to sustainable energy technologies. |
