Course Objective

1) Understanding basic information about the global climate system and the effects of climate change
2) Understanding the issues of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adaptation to climate change
3) Understanding national and international developments regarding climate change and Turkey's position
4) Understanding local/regional/national and international solutions to combat climate change

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students will acquire basic knowledge of the variables of climate change science, understand the interaction between climate components, and learn about natural and anthropogenic impacts on the climate system.
2   Students will have detailed information about the effects of climate change.
3   Students will learn about global and regional climate models and future predictions for both the world and our country.
4   Students will learn about greenhouse gas emission inventory and greenhouse gas emission calculation methodologies, learn about sectoral greenhouse gas emissions calculation and projection studies, and learn about strategies that can be considered regarding greenhouse gas reduction.
5   Students will learn how to conduct adaptation sectors, impact and vulnerability analyses, and risk assessment studies in the context of adaptation to climate change, and will have information about strategies that can be considered within the scope of adaptation to climate change.
6   Students will gain knowledge about the effects of climate change on public health.
7   Students will understand technological solutions used to combat climate change.
8   Students will understand global climate agreements and evaluate how national and international policies contribute to the fight against climate change.
9   Students will be able to examine the role of cities in combating climate change.
