Course Objective

To explain the functioning of the financial system with its basic elements, to increase financial literacy, to analyze the economic effects of financial variables that arise due to the increase in borrowing relations.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to analyze the necessity of financial economics as a sub-discipline of economics.
2   To be able to analyze the effects of the increase in the economic decision makers' debt on these conomic units preferences.
3   To be able to explain the approaches in the field of financial economics as a tool of the formulation and evaluation of economic policies.
4   To be able to apply the basic tools of economic theory to the financially developed economies.
5   To be able to describe the tools to analyze the effects of the financial instruments development in the micro and macro level.
6   To be able to analyze the relationship between financial indicators of the economy and other economic indicators.
7   To be able to evaluate the constraints formed by the financial risks in terms of the economic policies.
8   To be able to evaluate financial risks and indicators of risks

1 The emergence of financial economics as a science, the relations of financial economics with other economic theories
2 Differences between microeconomic and macroeconomic approaches, methods and techniques in financial economics; financial engineering and the relationship between mathematics and financial economics
3 Relationships between the financial structure, system and markets in an economy and the sector Approaches in financial economics as a tool for formulating and evaluating economic policies and basic features of financial indicators
4 Classification of Financial Sector Components According to Regulatory and Supervisory Authority, Financial Institutions
5 Comparison of Financial Services Sector across Countries, Functioning of Financial Markets and Financial Assets
6 Interest Rate: Present Value-Future Value-Real/Nominal/Simple/Compound Interest Types and Determination of Interest Rates
7 Risk and Maturity Structure of Interest Rates, Financial risks and indicators of risks, Hedging, hedging, derivative instruments, financial techniques
8 Financial stability, financial fragility, financial weakness, speculative and ponzi financing
