Course Objective |
The aim of the course is to introduce the students the main principles and major issues of Turkish foreign policy from World War I until the end of the Cold War. The course will concentrate on different periods starting fron the collapse of the Ottoman Empire and the establishment of the Republic of Türkiye to relatively autonomous foreign policy of the early years of the Republic, pro-western foreign policies after 1945 and and the relative autonomy of the 1960s, 1970s, and pro-western policies of the 1980s. Each period will be examined by focusing on Türkiye's relations with different regions such as West (Europe and mainly the USA), the Soviet Union and the Middle East. |
