Course Objective

The purpose of this course is to familiarize students with various significant aspects of the long-standing Türkiye-EU relations. The focus will be on particularly the historical, political, economic, and cultural aspects of that relationship.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Demonstrate understanding of various aspects of Türkiye-EU relations in order to contextualize Türkiye's European vocation as well as to identify the role that Europe/EU has played in Türkiye's political, social and economic development.
2   Recognise different kinds of obstacles (stemming from both sides) that exist before Türkiye's accession process in order to assess the likelihood of Türkiye's full membership to the EU.
3   Develop the skill to make reasoned and critical argument.
4   Improve the skill to make presentations in the classroom.
5   Develop the skill to engage in discussions with the rest of co-learners as well as the lecturer.
6   Develop the skill to find, use and evaluate the relevant sources, including academic and media material.
