Course Objective

To make analysis and results concerning the problems of modern Islamic society by comprehending and interpreting the development and classical process of Islamic History on the basis of facts.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   understand the development progress which was experienced by Islamic society during the time period of the first four Caliphs
2   analyze the socio-political and economic causes and results of domestic disorders and provocative attempts
3   trace the transition from caliphate to sultanate in Umayyad period
4   consider how development of Islamic Society in a short time caused religious, sectarian and political division
5   understand how Islamic society gained a pluralistic structure via transforming during Abbasid period.

5 Muawiya, foundation of Umayyads and Sufyanids
6 Marwanids, Marwan and Abdul malik ibn Marwan Dönemi, Abdul malik ibn Marwan s sons era and Omar ibn Abdul Aziz era and the conquests
7 Religious, political turmoil and the signs of the schools of belief and Islamic law
8 Mid-term Exam
9 Institutions, science and culture
10 Abbasid Revolution, the foundation of Abbasids, As-Saffah and al-Mansur era
11 Hostility between the caliphs of the rise of Abbasids: al-Amin and al-Ma mun and Mihnah
12 The administrative structure, international trade and urban life in the time period of rise of Abbasids
13 Religious, Scientific and Cultural life in Abbasids
