Course Objective

The aim of this course is primarily to teach our students Ottoman Turkish, which constitutes an important phase of our linguistic journey. Ottoman Turkish derives its name from the Ottoman Empire, which remained in power for over six centuries. Therefore, it is a fact that all kinds of literary activities produced during this period were created in this language. In this respect, learning Ottoman Turkish has become extremely important. Being able to use this language significantly contributes to raising cultured young individuals who know their past and can draw lessons from history. On the other hand, many works written in the past that have become key reference texts in scientific studies are also in Ottoman Turkish. Learning this language will provide our youth with important contributions, particularly in terms of enabling them to conduct sound scientific research.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Will learn to read the texts written in Ottoman Turkish.
2   Will benefit from the sources written in Ottoman Turkish in their research activities.
3   Will be able to chase the history of structures by reading tombstones, legends of mosques and fountains.
