Course Objective

To enable the students to learn the cultural values of their civilization, to have them to learn the general information of Turkish Music, to advance the contribution of Religious music to their work after graduation, to get the students to comprehend the aesthetic angle of Music, to teach that the power of music could the personality spiritually.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Will be familiar to the musical terms
2   Will learn the forms of religious music and be able to perform them
3   Will learn the maqams and have a strong basis for following musical education.
4   Will have knowledge about the lyrics of religious songs and their meanings.
5   Will learn the prominent masters of religious music and religious literature, will benefit from their performance and works, will set up a basis with the benefits.

2 The explanation of the relationship between religion and music in the light of the sources, the Development of Islamic history with regard to art, literature and asthetics
3 Introduction to forms of religious music and maqam Rast
4 Maqam Rast and a documentary about Turkish Music Masters
5 Mi'raciyye, Mevlid, Tevşih
6 Maqam Uşşak and Forms of Na't, Durak, Münacaat
7 Forms of Salat ü selamlar, ezan, tekbir and Maqam Hüseyni
8 General Repetition
9 Mawlawi ceremonies and a related documentary
10 Maqam Hicaz and Introduction to Turkish musical instruments
11 Periods of Turkish Musical History and a presentation about the masters of Turkish music
12 Maqam Nihavend and a presentation about the masters of Turkish music
13 Maqam Segah and Salat-ı Ümmiye, Tekbir and the life of the composer of these forms: Buhurizade Mustafa Itri Efendi
14 Introducing the sufi poets: Yunus Emre, Niyazi Mısri, Gaybi, Aziz Mahmut Hüdayi, the meanings of the lyrics of the religious songs learnt in the previous classes.
