Course Objective

The aim of this course is to provide information about the theoretical and practical aspects of the recently developed theories of religious education. In this context, the course aims to provide students with the ability to evaluate the social, cultural, educational and scientific developments associated with the development of contemporary theories of religious education. It is aimed to provide students with an in-depth perspective by providing a general framework about the philosophical background of contemporary theories of religious education as well as the understanding of education and religion. With this course, it is aimed to provide information about the representatives and basic assumptions of the most widely used theories of religious education and to provide a source for the evaluation of theories related to religious education in our country.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students will be able to explain the process of changes in political, cultural, religious areas that have been a source of improvements in modern religious theories; and they will be able to compare them with each other.
2   They will be able to evaluate the general properties of modern religious theories.
3   They will be able to analyze these modern educational theories theoritically.
4   They will be able to explain the effects of these modern religious theories to the religious educational models.
5   They will be able to link between religious educational theories with educational systems and program developing processes.

8 Critical model of religious education
9 Inquiry model of religious education

12 Postmodernist model of religious education
13 Pluralistic model of religious education
14 Comparison of religious education models (Evaluation of religious education models in terms of religious education in our country)
