Course Objective

As it is known, human rights are protected within the scope of various mechanisms at different scales, including at the universal, regional and national levels. Within the course, it is aimed that students will have knowledge about the aforementioned mechanisms that protect human rights on a universal, regional and national scale in the light of positive law.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To have knowledge about the concepts of human rights, the historical process of human rights
2   To have knowledge about Universal and Regional Human Rights Organizations
3   To have knowledge about the structure and functioning of Human Rights Protection Mechanisms
4   To be able to analyze the effectiveness of Human Rights Protection Mechanisms
5   To be able to decipher the interaction between Human Rights Protection Mechanisms

2 Recognition of human rights by positive law, Human rights protection systems: Internal protection and international protection (at the universal and regional level)

4 Contractual and Non-Contractual Protection Mechanisms in the United Nations System
5 Protection Mechanisms within the Scope of Specialized Organizations (ILO, UNESCO, International Criminal Court)
6 Protection Mechanisms in European Human Rights Law I: ECHR
7 Protection Mechanisms in European Human Rights Law II: Non-judicial protection procedures
8 Human Rights in European Union Law
9 Protection Mechanisms in American Human Rights Law
10 Protection Mechanisms in African Human Rights Law
11 Protection of rights and freedoms at the national level (in the Turkish Legal system) against the legislative body
12 Protection of rights and freedoms at the national level (in the Turkish Legal system) against the executive branch
