Course Objective

Objective: Introduction to the legal regime of the airspace and international rules on relationships and issues related to aviation.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to explain the basic concepts and principles of international air law, 2   To be able to specify the historical development of aviation and the air law, 3   To be able to explain the main sources of air law and normative activities of international institutions on aviation 4   To be able to explain the legal status of airspace, its boundaries and distinction from the outer space, 5   To be able to specify the international legal order on international navigation and transportation in the airspace 6   To be able to evaluate the issue of liability in air carriage 7   To be able to explain the international legal order on criminal matters in the airspace

Week Subject Description 1 The scope of the air law and historical development of aviation 2 Sources of the Air Law and the general order of the Chicago Conventions 3 The order of the Chicago Conventions 4 ICAO 5 Introduction to other international institutions on aviation 6 The concept of airspace and its legal status 7 Horizontal and vertical boundaries of the airspace 8 Aerial Intrusions 9 Aerial Intrusions 10 Legal regime of the aircraft 11 Phases of the rules of international law relating air freedoms and the liberalization process 12 Air transport scheme in the European Union 13 The development of aviation industry and air law in Türkiye, and airspace issues related to Türkiye 14 International legal order on criminal matters in the airspace 15 Mid-term exam
