Course Objective

The aim of this lecture programme is to enable students to scrutinise and apply skills on oral as well as written texts such as speaker identification, speaker recognition, author attribution, author verification, author profiling and similarity detection (i.e. plagiarism detection) subject to criminal investigation.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. To define fundemental concepts in forensic linguistics
2   2. To investigate oral and written text types subject to criminal investigation
3   3. To scrutnise the legal and linguistic role of language as a system as a means to deliver evidence
4   4. To research and apply knowledge in areas related to law and linguistics
5   5. To research and evaluate oral and written texts in terms of gathering and delivering evidence legal investigation.
