Course Objective

The aim of this course is to give information about research methods in liguistics and it is aimed to equip students with information such as linguistic research awareness, linguistic research preparation stage, in-text citation and bibliography, and it is aimed that students look at the phenomenon of language with a scientific eye, gain knowledge about how a method-based linguistic research is carried out and put it into practice.

1 What is linguistic research Differences of Linguistic Research and scientific writing from other types of research and writing. Differences of a linguistic study from other text and writing types, content of the research
2 Research in linguistics from the beginning to the present The development followed by the writing of the researches in the field of linguistics in the historical process
3 Linguistic Research Awareness I Qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods in small-scale areas, preferred theoretical trends
4 Linguistic Research Awareness II Qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods in large-scale areas, preferred theoretical trends
5 Linguistic Research Preparation Phase Raising questions and problems about language, determining the purpose, observing the gap in the field, developing presuppositions about this gap, writing a title
6 Preparing Introduction and Theoretical Background in Linguistic Studies Important points to be mentioned in the introduction. Top-down and bottom-up view; Reliability of the sources, Making a field search, Using the library, Using the Internet, Creating the theoretical framework, Narrowing the determined theoretical field
7 Choosing a Research Method and Database in Linguistic Studies According to the planned research, data collection, analysis, etc. choosing methods; Constructing the research method, Presenting the research method in a scientific study, Writing the method

70% class attendance is obligatory.
Absence from classes will not be considered as an excuse for late submission of the homework assignments/projects.
Cheating and plagiarism attempts in assignments and exams will be evaluated with a 0 (zero) grade.
