Course Objective

In the concept of this course, the students will learn fundamental principles of biochemistry, structures and functions of protein, carbohydrate and nucleic acids.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   LO1. Explain the structure and general properties of amino acids that make up cells and proteins, discuss the relationships between the structure and functions of proteins, plan the experimental steps for protein purification and characterization.
2   LO2. Examine the structure, catalysis mechanism and kinetics of enzymes as biological catalysts, explain the importance of prosthetic groups required for their catalytic activities.
3   LO3. Classify carbohydrates and lipids and discuss their structural properties.
4   LO4. Explain the components involved in biological membrane structures, discuss the mechanisms that are effective in cellular transport.
5   LO5. Explain nucleic acid structure, functions and metabolism.
