Course Objective

The aim of this course is; to define the basic concepts of coordination compounds, to explain the chemical bonding of these compounds with related theories, to interpret electronic spectra and to discuss inorganic reaction mechanisms.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Explain the properties of transition metals and basic concepts of coordination compounds and name coordination compounds and apply EAN and 18 electron rules to these complexes.
2   Determine the geometrical structures and isomers of coordination compounds.
3   Explain the coupling in coordination compounds with VBT and KAT.
4   Apply the MOT and Jahn-Teller theorem to coordination compounds.
5   Know the rules for determination of term symbols. Explain electronic spectra and energy level diagrams of coordination compounds. Discuss inorganic reaction mechanisms.
