Course Objective

The aim of this course is to inform students on the main principles and applications of fluid mechanics, vibrations & waves, and thermodynamics.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Learning pressure in fluids, Pascal's law and buoyancy
2   Understanding the surface tension, fluid flow, Bernoulli equation, viscosity and turbulance phenomena
3   Being able to understand the simple harmonic motion and Young modulus
4   Being able to understand the relationships between damped oscillations, forced oscillations and coupled oscillators
5   Being able to understand the traveling waves and solve the wave equation in one an two dimensions
6   Being able to understand relationships between standing waves, diffraction & interference, and dispersion phenomena
7   Being able to understand the zeroth law of thermodynamics, thermal expansion and heat conduction phenomena
8   Being able to undertand the relations between ideal gas and van der Waals equations of state
9   To understand the outcomes of kinetic theory and Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution of molecular speeds
10   To learn the basics of the first and second laws of thermodynamics, heat engines and entropy

4 Young modulus & Damped oscilaltions & Forced oscillations & first quiz
5 Travelling waves & wave equation
6 Standing waves
7 Diffraction & interference & Dispersion
8 Midterm Exam+General overview
9 Thermal equilibrium & Zeroth law of termodynamics: Thermometers and Temperature Scales and Thermal Expansion Quantity of Heat, Calorimetry, Phase Changes , Heat transfer & Radiation
10 Equations of State & ideal gas and Van der Waals gas and Molecular Properties of Matter and Kinetic-Molecular Model of an Ideal Gas and Heat Capacities in kinetic theory
11 Maxwell & Boltzmann distribution and Phases of Matter & phase diagrams and Thermodynamic Systems and work
12 Work in thermodynamics systems application of the first law and second quiz
13 Kinds of Thermodynamic Processes:Internal Energy and heat capacity of an Ideal Gas and Adiabatic Processes for an Ideal Gas
14 Heat Engines; Otto, Diesel and Carnot cycles and entropy and disorder as well as Microscopic Interpretation of Entropy

1. It is obligated to continue to at least 70% of lessons .
2. Every trial to copying will be finalized with disciplinary proceedings.
3. The instructor has right to make practical quizzes. The scores obtained from quizzes will be directly added to exam scores.
4. Students, who do not participate in Midterm exams and regularly do the assignments, not allowed entering the final exam
