Course Objective

The aim of this course is to make the student to understand quantum optics, lasers, non-linear optics, optical modes and propagation phenomena and to able to solve practical or theoretical problems within the given fields.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Being able to understand the basic postulates and theorems in quantum mechanics, find the energy eigenvalues and eigenvectors for the harmonic oscillator and angular momentum operators.
2   Being able to calculate the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of Hermitan operators by matrix methods and understand the time-dependent peturbation theory
3   Being able to understand the optical ray propagation through a variety of optical media and behavior of Gaussian beams
4   Being to have knowledge about the basic properties of optical resonators and determine the field distribution inside some common configurations of optical resonators
5   Being able to understand the basic properties of electromagnetic fields and their quantization, the laws governing the interaction between atomic systems and electromagnetic radiation

1. The homeworks will be assessed by directly adding to the mid-term scores.
2. Final examination will be evaluated by essay or test typ examination technique

1. It is obligated to continue to at least 70% of lessons.
2. Every trial to copying will be finalized with disciplinary proceedings.
3. The instructor has right to make practical quizzes. The scores obtained from quizzes will be directly added to exam scores.
